CUS Palermo launched Active Ageing piloting programme!
The Active Ageing pilot programme, a project funded by the Erasmus+ Sport programme to prevent falls in the over-65s through targeted activities, has officially started in Palermo.
CUS Palermo, a historic sports centre in Sicily, has been supporting local communities through sport for over 75 years. Known for its Olympic legacy and strong community ties, it continues to offer sports activities for all ages.
Recently, CUS Palermo launched a new Active Ageing pilot as part of the EU-funded Active Ageing for Falls Prevention project. The programme encourages older adults to stay active and healthy, reinforcing the centre’s mission to make sport accessible to everyone.
The programme began on 19 February 2025, led by instructors Sonia Tarantino and Valentina Pizzitola. During the initial phase, participants underwent assessments measuring their mobility, balance, and strength — essential indicators in fall prevention and overall well-being in older adults.
These tests will be repeated after three months to evaluate the effectiveness of the programme. The aim is to support older adults in maintaining independence and reducing fall-related injuries through targeted, supportive exercise routines.
